Blogging for effect

This month is NaBloPoMo. National Blog Posting Month, and NaNoWriMo, National Novel Writing Month. The idea in blogging is to post every day. The idea in the writing is to write a 50K novel in one month.

I was struggling with the purpose of each. The reality is that the novel writing leads to a completed project. The blogging simply leads to...well, I don't know what.

Last year I took up the NaBloPoMo gauntlet and blogged pretty regularly for the year. I have slacked off in recent months, and have been trying to "find my voice" as they say.

Yesterday I read an article, and I apologize for not having the link, that stated that the purpose of twitter and facebook in business is to drive people to your blog where you can tell them more of what you teased them with on Twitter and Facebook.

I thought that was helpful and interesting. Then, I started to reflect, and I realized that my business is people, and bringing them to Jesus Christ. So my medium, in any of those forms ought to be doing something to help build relationships.

I don't know if this insight will help or hinder my actual blog posting, but it at least gives clarity to what I want to be doing with these media. I want to connect, and build a base of friendship and respect, giving glory to God in the process.

So, thanks for relating.

Hi David,

A novel in a month!? I finished the main draft of a novel in about a year and am now still in rewrite mode. I keep finding parts to improve.

And I can't imagine blogging every day. I guess it shows I am getting old. Less is less;-)

I completely agree with you central writing goal: by God's love, through my writing, to help bring individuals into a relationship with Jesus Christ.

In the Light of God,

Daniel Wilcox
