The mandate (Maundy means "Mandate"):

We think of the mandate as the institution of the Lord’s Supper. In reality it is about loving one another (ht Out the Door) Another mandate present in this story is the mandate to let Jesus wash us.

Are we willing to be washed in Jesus and made new.

Washing held special significance for the Jews as it meant the restoration of holiness.

What do we need to wash away so that we can be restored to holiness before the Lord?
